Wilderness Dawning is a privately-owned safari company based in Maun, Botswana and Johannesburg, South Africa. We have been operating since 1997 and have grown to become one of the top local tour operators.

Wilderness Dawning is owned and operated in Maun by Nic and Samantha Gachter, in partnership with one of Southern Africa's leading safari guides, Craig Nesbitt. All have been involved in the safari business since the 1980's, both as guides and lodge management.

//Kabbo Houseboat

//Kabbo is a San Bushman word which is a loose translation meaning 'To dream' or in a sense, a 'reflection' of a story - a story like the wind, a story which comes from a far off place.

It is also the name we have chosen for our Luxury Houseboat, which operates in the 'Panhandle' area of the Okavango Delta in Northern Botswana. This area is recognized as being amongst the quietest and most peaceful in the Delta, due to its remoteness. Indeed, there are only a handful of permanent camps and boats operating in this wilderness area ... which makes it ideal for our discerning guests.

Our Safaris

Tours and Safaris

We strongly believe that the single most important factor on any safari holiday is the quality, patience and experience of the professional guide.

All our guides are passionate abouth South Africa and the evironment in which we operate. An attitude which is reflected in all our safaris is the responsibility the guide has been given in showing guests the diversity of our subcontinent.

We realize that for many people, a safari is a holiday of a lifetime and this is therefore a responsibility which our guides do not take lightly.

Vehicles & Equipment

Safari Vehicles and Equipment

Robust 4WD vehicles are essential for travel in Botswana due to the variable conditions of the tracks within protected areas. Wilderness Dawning operates specially-modified Toyota Landcruisers that accommodate either 9 or 12 guests.

All vehicles have an open roof and sides (with roll-down weatherproof canvas, or in some cases, windows that fold down) and thus offer the best game-viewing opportunities.

They also come equipped with first aid kits, a fire extinguisher, individual bucket seats with seat belts and a cooler box for beverages.
